Summer Study

Each summer at Sewanee, over 150 exceptionally talented young musicians gather to study, perform, and share their musical lives.  The atmosphere is intense but always supportive.  Faculty mentors work closely with their students, and learning takes place across a full spectrum of activities.  Students perform at least twice weekly, in both orchestra and chamber music, and attend faculty and guest artist concerts, master classes, and other special events.

The SSMF curriculum includes:

  • Orchestras
  • Chamber Music
  • Private lessons and master classes
  • Special classes in composition, conducting, repertoire, audition preparation, and many other topics

Orchestra and chamber music assignments are based on ability and experience and change weekly, affording leadership opportunities to many.

While the schedule is rigorous, requiring students to balance many demands on their time, the opportunity for personal growth makes a Sewanee summer an unforgettable experience.
