GIS Disaster Support

Particularly relevant in the very active 2017 hurricane season, the open-source web map, Open Street Map, also organizes crowd-sourced mapping support for humanitarian crises. Humanitarian Open Street Map is organizes volunteers to create online maps by mapping roads and buildings, identify damaged infrastructure, and occasionally locate people and places where aid or supplies are needed. To volunteer to Humanitarian Open Street Map does not require any particular skill or aid, beyond being able to identify roads or buildings from an airphoto. After registering, and following some basic instructions, you are either given an area to help map (with other volunteers) or to check other volunteers' edits.
