From Feb. 9-16, Sewanee will be holding its own German Film Festival, the Sewaneenale, to coincide with the International Film Festival being held at the same time in Berlin known as the Berlinale. The festival opens with a red carpet gala at the German House featuring a viewing of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, followed by a showing of F.W. Murnau's Faust at 7 p.m. in Gailor Auditorium on Friday, Feb. 11. Then on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 11 a.m., you can see Marlene Dietrich in The Blue Angel. All of these films are emblematic of the Weimar Period. Fatih Akin's Soul Kitchen brings us into the modern era and closes the festival on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 8:30 p.m. at the German House. The Sewaneenale has been organized by German House Head Resident, Florian Seubert.
